Web Design in West London

Web design in West London, from a studio in White City.

We are on Wood Lane in W12. That is a walk from Westfield, a few minutes from Television Centre and a short ride down to Hammersmith Broadway. West London is not an area we cover from a distance. It is where we work.

What businesses around here actually look like

W12 has an unusual mix for one postcode. White City Place and Television Centre brought production and media companies back into the area, and the Imperial College campus on the other side of Wood Lane has pulled in research and life sciences work alongside them. Two streets away, Shepherd's Bush Market and the Uxbridge Road are full of independent traders, and the fabric shops on Goldhawk Road still bring people across London. Westfield sits in the middle of the lot. A business here might be a three person studio, a family shop that has been on the same corner for forty years, or a spin-out with institutional money behind it.

W6 is a different proposition. Hammersmith is an office district first, with large corporate floors around the Broadway and along the river, and a layer of professional services feeding off them. Behind that you have Brackenbury Village and the streets around Ravenscourt Park, which are dense with small independents, dentists, therapists, tutors and trades. The Lyric and Riverside Studios anchor a real arts audience on top of that.

W3 is the most practical of the three. Acton runs on light industrial and trade premises, with Park Royal on its northern edge. Builders, fitters, motor trades, suppliers and contractors work out of those units, and nearly all of them are chasing enquiries that arrive by phone, from someone searching on a phone.

These are not one type of customer and we would not pretend otherwise. What they have in common is that most of their new business starts with somebody searching within a couple of miles of where they are standing.

Why using a studio in W12 makes a difference

Most web design is done remotely and there is nothing wrong with that. But some things only work when you can get to someone. We can sit in your shop or your office and watch how people actually ask you for things, which is almost never how the website words it. We can photograph the premises properly instead of working from whatever is on your phone. And when something goes wrong in the week after launch, you are not putting a ticket into a queue in another time zone.

There is a search side to it too. Google leans hard on proximity for queries like web designer near me, and proximity is one of the few things nobody can buy. Being a West London business, with a West London address and a West London phone number, is the entire basis of us showing up here at all. The same logic applies to you. If your business name, address and phone number are inconsistent across your website, your Google Business Profile and the directories you are listed in, you give up ground for no reason at all. It is a dull problem and it is the first one worth fixing.

What we usually build for businesses here

Often it is a small site that loads instantly and makes the phone ring, for a trade or a practice that does not need twenty pages. Sometimes it is a WordPress build for an owner who wants to change their own prices and opening hours without paying somebody to do it. Sometimes it is a shop, for a trader who wants to sell beyond the stall or the unit. A good share of it is rebuilding a site that was perfectly fine in 2016 and is now slow, awkward on a phone and quietly losing enquiries. After that it is maintenance, keeping things patched and backed up so a shop owner never has to think about it.

Two examples of the kind of thing we build

GMAS Group

A London refurbishment and building contractor working across all 32 boroughs, covering full renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, lofts and extensions. The hard part was making a broad service list understandable to a homeowner in about ten seconds, then getting them to a quote request without friction. We built a fast multi-page site with click to call and WhatsApp contact, and separate pages for landlord compliance and for individual London areas. Contractors working out of Acton and Park Royal have close to the same problem.

Pendle Forest Orienteers

A club rather than a company, so the job was different. Members and newcomers needed to find events, results and how to join without hunting for them. We built something simple that the committee can keep up to date themselves and that works properly on a phone at the edge of a field. Sports clubs, churches, societies and community groups around Shepherd's Bush and Hammersmith need exactly this and usually cannot get anyone to build it for them.
