Web Design in London

Web design in London, for businesses that work across it.

London is 32 boroughs pretending to be one city. If your customers are spread across it, being found is a different problem to the one most web design advice is written for. We have built for that problem.

Nobody in London searches for London

This is the thing that catches businesses out. Somebody in Peckham looking for a builder does not type web design London or builder London. They type builder near me, or builder Peckham, or they open Maps and look at what is close. The word London barely appears in the searches that actually turn into work.

So a single page saying you cover London does almost nothing, and thirty pages saying the same sentence with a different borough name pasted in does worse than nothing, because Google reads them as one page repeated and filters the lot. We know that from having done it on this very site, which is why seven near identical area pages were deleted from it rather than padded out.

What does work is harder and duller. One genuinely local page where you are physically based, so the map listing has something to stand on. Then service pages good enough to rank on their own merits, wherever the reader happens to be. Then consistent name, address and phone details everywhere your business is listed, which is the least glamorous item on the list and the one most often skipped.

A contractor in all 32 boroughs

GMAS Group is a London refurbishment and building contractor. Full home renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, loft conversions and extensions, working right across the capital. Two problems came with that. The service list was broad enough that a homeowner landing cold could not tell in ten seconds whether it was for them, and the geography was wide enough that no single page could speak to a landlord in Ealing and a homeowner in Lewisham at the same time.

We built a fast multi-page site with a clear service structure, a quote request flow with nothing in its way, click to call and WhatsApp contact for people who would rather not fill in a form, and separate pages for landlord compliance and for individual London areas. The area pages were written to be worth reading on their own rather than duplicated across a list of borough names.

If your business has to be findable in more than one part of London, or sells something where the customer wants to talk to a person before they commit, that is the pattern we would start from.

Work that is not local at all

Not everything needs a postcode. Offer Accepted is a UK wide platform that helps home buyers act on their RICS survey, connecting them to conveyancers, mortgage brokers, trades, removals and insurance in one place. Three audiences, buyers, partners and affiliates, each needing a different route through the same site. We built it on Astro so it loads immediately and costs almost nothing to run. Pendle Forest Orienteers is at the other end of the scale, a club site that the committee keeps up to date themselves and that works properly on a phone in a field.

They are worth mentioning here because most London businesses assume they need a big site. Usually they need a small one that is fast and clear, plus the discipline to keep it that way.

Where we are, and what that means for you

We are based in West London. If you are in W12, W6 or W3 we will come to you, sit in the shop or the office and work out what your website should actually say. That is the version of this we recommend, and it is the only part of London where we can claim any real advantage.

Everywhere else in London we work the way most studios do, over email and calls and screen shares, and it works perfectly well. We would rather say that plainly than pretend a studio in W12 is somehow local to Bromley.

In Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith, White City or Acton?

There is a separate page for you, with a lot more detail about what we actually see in W12, W6 and W3.
